For only our third Six Day, it's certainly been an entertaining ride!
Along with the outstanding performances there have been many characters that have enriched the event bringing the more traditional ultramarathon runners closer together.
And performances... what performances we have had. Darren Linney still undefetaed at this event, Annabel Hepworth's Australian ultra performance of the year at the 6 Day in 2018, John Timms continually winding back the clock... there's so much to reflect on! And that's not even mentioning the "shorter" events (I'm looking at you Sharon Scholz and your 400+km in the 72 Hour). Everyone has just done so well.
Being the only 6 Day event in Australia makes it even the more harder to say goodbye after 2021. But it's also one final chance for some talented but slightly zany runners to get together to create even more lifelong memories.
Cassie Smith at the 6 Day
The current version of the Adelaide 6 Day was actually the idea of one of South Australia's most popular ultramarathon exponents Sarah Barnett.
Sarah's love for ultramarathons is infectious, and I knew even before we met up for the first meeting to discuss its potential that I would be walking out as the proud owner of a new 6 Day event.
We had several locations that we thought would be suitable. But Thorndon Park had the best all-round appeal. And with the support of Campbelltown City Council and the Morialta Rotary Club (who operate the kiosk) a venue was born.
Whether this is your first time or you're a seasoned veteran, you will walk (/hobble) away from this event with some amazing memories. And hopefully satisfied with your result!
